Setting out and starting floors

How do you do it,

I dry lay all the tiles then do my cuts , then I lift some tiles leaving a key tile then apply addy. This works but takes a long time.

what method do you use ?

depends on the size of the floor, will be using that method in a weeks time on a couple of en suites

Big or small - find the middle and decide if its a full tile either side of the centre line or the line through the middle of centre tile. Same for ends.
Start laying asap with fast set and by the time youv'e done one side and then the next the cuts are ready to put in!

or grid your floor then you dont need to lay any tiles and can still do your cuts ete

I work the floor out the same as John has mentioned and start laying it but I put all the cuts in as I go, Dry laying seems a waste of time, if its a large floor that is going to take at least 2 days then I use slow setting, there is no need for fast set because all tiles are in and nobody needs to walk on the floor. The same applies for skirting tiles, they are fitted as the floor tile goes down.

I measure out floor.if kitchen i line out to leave good cuts at kicker board.and surrounding walls.if hallway i get centre point and either tile either side or split tile on it taking into account cuts around stairs.door openings etc.i very rarely dry lay unless small bathroom first row around toilet pipe etc.on all floors i know before i tile what all my cuts will be.just by measuring out and that includes 3-5 size patterns etc.

I tend to dry lay smallish floors first, including cuts, then start from farthest point from exit and work my way back. On larger floors I find centre and either straddle centre line or full tile from centre line and stick and cut as I'm going

I only dry lay if it is a really small floor, doing all the cutting as i go and then make one mix and stick them down, Other then that i measure out the room to find the centres and where the best sizes of cuts would go and then start tiling doing all my cuts as i go.
I have tried leaving all the cuts to last but that is like watching paint dry:mad2: wont do that again!!

same as john and diamond for me, guaging with the tape or marker pen on my 6ft level to space from the centre line .,laying cuts as i go

No set way, but in a small room i dry lay and cut edges then get sticking
large floors i tend to section the floor and do it in quarters for real big floors or just half the floor for normal size kichens

Small floor, dry lay then set tiles.Larger floors is depending the size of the tile
