New to tanking and have to refit a bathroom. Strip out with tiles off. Plasterboarded so not sure how it'll go, they either fall off or take the wall with them. If it goes okay I could prime and just retile or I can tank. If walls fall apart I can plasterboard and tank or re-board with tile backer. It's only a small bathroom, having a P shaped shower bath with curved screen and surface mount shower replacing 10 yr old similar setup. I've noticed Ardex and Mapei do kits around £60-70 with enough to do a shower enclosure and seen mira 4400 do a coating, just wondered if it's the done thing with a shower/bath or is it overkill and a simpler alternative might suit better or none at all. I'm short on time too so wondered which were easiest, quickest fit and fast drying if I should fit one, opinions gratefully received, thanks, Mark.

Don't think it's ever overkill to tank any shower area. I almost insist it's done, or they take responsibility for moisture ingress. Especially if it's 1st floor and above, I normally point out cost of repair work if a shower leaks in a loft. That's repairs all the way down! They usually see sense for the sake of an extra few pound (relatively speaking of course! Haha)
a good fast tanking system for a job like that is Homelux's wall tanking on a roll. Stick it up with same addy, tile immediately. Long as proper prep is done of course. It's not design to cover big holes in rough & damaged PB! Haha

yep looked at ardex for the 90 min reason, I ordered a load of stuff in the other day but forgot to add one onto the order! Mapei kit available local at screwfix but takes much longer to cure so might have to giggle the install plan so accommodate the extra time unless I can get hold of one.
Also sealing baths to walls, some use tapes but I've always used Silicon sealant to adhere the bath to the wall and sealed around after, what do others do?

Most of the plasterboard came off with the tiles and the metal studwork was done is a such a way to make it an arse to sort out but reboarded and patched it all then filled with ady the occasional hole. Used the Mapei kit, fiddly using tape to the bath edge but rollered on okay. Called mapei and they said should cover 4-4.5m2 and it did so both main well coated.
