It would probably explain why its not neat either, he probably couldnt wipe the joints properly without the grout falling out, hence him leaving it well over the tile edges.

Oh dear oh dear oh dear.

Can I suggest you take the upstand covering off an look at the base of the wall under the shower tray to see just how much water is getting through the back of the tray?
I cant see that the water would be getting in through the Silicon as he has lashed so much on there! Has he sealed the inside of the shower frame to the tiles? Most cubilce are designed to be siliconed on the outside only as they use the frame to drain the water back into the tray. I have seen cases where they have been siliconed in and out and the water fills up the frame insde and the water then penetrates through the screw holes into the wall that way.

Yeah, grouted instead of siliconed, not that it mattered in this case, the whole job was doomed to fail. Sorry to say it, but that is some of the worst fixing I've ever seen, others have commented on some / most of the viewable problems.

Thanks for the pics.. Not pretty i have to say.

From the pics it looks like adhesive showing through causing the greyish area's , as this gets wet it will darken more than the grout will.

I agree with some of the other comments on the grout joints being shallow and the grout not getting hold.

The damp patch on the wall is where a seal has not been created and water is seeping through.

It will more than likely be at the base behind the tiling and probably no seal to the substrate.

I personally think you have a claim here for a re-tile , as that standard of tiling and the finish is very poor.

Joints are out of line, you have excessive grout left on the surface in some area's and insufficient grout in others.

The Silicon bead at the base is roughly applied... i don't think i need to say any more Ian but you need to persue this further and get the job and finish you paid for.

Will you please let us know the outcome of this .

Omg another disaster
You can tell a lot about work he done from the first pic, non lines matching, he applied Silicon very badly around tray and he grouted corner in shower that's like NO NO, If everything would be ok and you didn't had any leaks or grout was not getting dark, I would still be not happy with the quality, this looks like 60 years old shower room. sorry my recommendation would be start all over again and get someone who know what he is doing

were there enough batons behind the boards ? lack of them could explain the grout cracking . get the tiler back and point out the faults others have said on here and ask him if he would pay for this quality of work in his home and lastly the sillicone looks like he put it on with a shovell or maybe his white stick totally unacceptable in my veiw.

HI Ian,

The problem is not with the materials used it's with the execution of the works. The overall standard is quite poor, no better than general DIY standards, even the Silicon has been applied without any care. Hopefully you haven't paid the builder in full and if I was you i'd insist on a full re-fit at his cost and i'd also insist that different contractors undertake the work rather than the same tiler as by the sounds of it you've had a few problems and they have done a couple of patch up jobs

the wet patch to your wall cannot be allowed to persist as it will damage the structure of your home

the only way forward with this is to strip back to the substrate, reseal joints to ensure water tightness,remove, clean up , refit and reseal around showerbase and remove , cleanup and refit showerscreen

its not acceptable to have the horizontal joints out of line with adjacent walls so tiles need replacing any way

your builder is going to be unhappy but he needs to bite the bullet and redo the job

if not someone else will have to do it at his expense
