skirting board/tiling question

The room I am going to tile has no skirting board at the moment so should i tile the floor first then put it on or put it on first then tile up to it, i know it's a stupid question but i needed to ask it so please forgive me:lol:

Far neater to tile the floor and fix skirting on top. Also easier. Also if ever skirting needs to be changed, altered etc. - no tile damage.

Make sure you get a good line with the top surface of your tiles though You don't wan't to plane skirting to fit.

Am i right in thinking you should also leave an expansion gap under the skirting anyways

I am not an expert but it is normal to have a movement joint at the boundary of two surfaces As you are putting skirting down I would cut tiles 5mm short of wall. I can see no need to fill the small gap between wall and tile. I have tiled 10 floors though, 5 had skirting.

as easyt for me, apart from I tend to leave about 10mm, as skirting thickness comfortably bridges this. Don't fill the gap with grout tho'!

Leave a gap half as wide as your skirting thickness and you are safely covered

Sorry for regurgitating this old thread, but would you silicone fill the gap left or just leave it as a space ?

Just leave it as it wont be seen. You can of course if you so wish use a silicone sealant.
