hi all, I`m just about to tile my small bathroom and looking for advice or opinions on what would look best. when I tile my floor, should I tile up to the skirting board or remove it and replace on top of tiles when tiling is finished?😕

Welcome to the forum totoboy my own personal opinion would be to remove the skirting and replace after tiling is complete as with most of my customers i offer the option of fitting quadrant around the perimiter as it gives nice clean line around a room.

Thanks Matty A, I thought this might be the best option but wasn`t sure. Now I can get started before the new bathroom suite comes. Thanks again totoboy.

yup, get the skirtings off, forget the quadrant though looks awful, cant get much cleaner than under the skirting, make sure your tiles are nice and level or you'll have horrible gaps and grout it before you refit the skirtings.

might sound a stupoid question but how does skirting fix to a wall? and what would you use to fix it to tiles?

thanks

Use liquid nails, perfect.

I would keep the skirting on - you will end up with the skirting protruding from the wall otherwise when its against the door frame. Also the skirting will have to come off if you want to change the tiles.

For the bathroom, I would have no skirting in there full stop. Tile to the floor, join with your floor tiles and put a line of Silicon beading around the joint for expansion / movement. Low maintenance and looks the part.

🙂

i only suggested the quad as not all customers want the mess and extra expense of removing and refitting the skirting especially if the skirting is in good nic anyway.
As it is i ask the customer what they would prefer either skirting, quad or tile up to.

im with you apm, any wood in bathrooms is a no no. As for mess and expense, 5 mins takes them off and with paslode nailer 5 mins puts them back on, fill the holes and caulk and your done. Cant say ive ever made a mess taking skirtings off, time you run a blade round the top edge to break the caulk seal and tile the floor you are up onto fresh wall which is then recaulked after the skirting itself is cleaned up. Nine times out of ten it looks better than it did originally! Dont think 30 or 40 quids gonna burst the bank either for a quality finish.
