Solid wall preparation for tiling

Tilers Forums Official Sponsors

Hi All

Looking for advice on prep for rendered and plastered walls.... have taken old tiles off and its taken large chunks of plater and render off the walls.

How do you guys go about preparing this for tiling? Do you just patch the holes and then prime and go for it? If so, what do you normally use to patch holes?

Or do you prefer to go for a full skim?

Or ive even thought about overboarding with 6mm waterproof board!! But thats a lot more time and money!

And my only thoughts with fully skimming it is drying times causing delays!

Any toughts appreciated!

Cheers

If plaster coming off with the tiles , is old plaster , debonded from the wall.
If it making hollow noises , but if diy suppose none that matters , patch it up with bonding plaster , scratch up the old part
99% of the time we go straight to brick
