Interesting to know - how fast do all you established tilers work at compared with when you first started?
Would you say twice as fast - three times as fast - or were you always working at a brisk pace from day one?

Twice as fast is enough usually. You tend to get cleaner and setout quicker and even get the tools out of the van quicker the more times you do it so overall you'd be expecting to be booking in three times the work maybe?

i would say twice as quick as when i first started ,somedays it can be quite amazing when you look at your watch and see how much work you have done .

the best of it is...you don't even realise you're getting quicker..what took 5-6 days will be taking 3-4...as Dan says that means more work.

It is not a race it's a marathon...how many tilers on these forums have been established for over 5 yrs...I'll guess 5% maybe less... lets hope that the newbies can aspire to that..after 5 it gets so much easier.many questions can be answered.not just tiling but how to behave and how to handle finance..pricing..motoring ..tooling..oh and the wife lol

I'm twice as fast as to when I started, plus setting out is easier, I love that bit, hate the grouting.

If you are just talking about tiling then yes a bit faster but also taking into account what Gaz says having a better understanding of the job ,for example if you take on a job and multi task i.e rip old floor up and ply out-fit bath panels etc this all takes time.Another one is fitting shower screens which takes a bit of time,so what i find is that the job s are still taking the same time but i am doing a lot more,not just a case of tiling.I try not to put myself under pressure by clock watching but feel i should sometimes ask or demand more money for the work i put in.
