Hi,

Whilst setting out in a bathroom with the gauge, I started applying datume lines to what I thought looked most pleasing regarding cuts.

Some Old Skool tiler who was on site at the time told me you ALWAYS start from the bath with a full tile, British Standard regs appantantly.

With me a novice I wasn't going to put up much of an argument, turns out the job looked best that way anyway but was he right? Can't remember being told that at the course or maybe I was daydreaming at the time

"you ALWAYS start from the bath with a full tile, British Standard regs appantantly"

Thats incorrect bud, British Standards Regulations does not state that at all.

It may look better with full tile above the bath and in most cases it does, but if your gonna have **** cuts elsewhere (around a window, sink) then adjust accordingly.

Thats old generation tilers for you !!!!!!!

As a rule, i never start out with a full tile at the bath, just my preferred method, always make sure it is a decent cut though, and as for it being in BS...

load of balls!! i always go for a full as tile as poss at ceiling because its what first catches the eye !! nothing worse than a small rip at ceiling imo

I agree there mate 🙂

Only ever found level and plumb baths if I installed them.Plumbers generally think 'a' level was one up from a GCSE!!! If the bath isn't manufactured flat and fitted level then don't expect full tiles to look right.Mark out the bath and window walls for height, then nail a straight 2 x 1 lat from the bottom of the closest full tile above the bath all the way around the room and away you go.when tiles are set on the lat remove and you have a tile to measure down from for a neat cut to the bath. childsplay
