This one should be a quickie. Do stone sealers prevent moisture coming out as well as stains going in or do they just stop stains and still allow the floor the "breath"
In particular I am interested in sealers for natural limestone flag stones.

Most good quality premium sealers allow Moisture Vapour Transmission (Breathable) so they help to prevent staining and give a reaction time to cleaning whilst allowing the stone to breathe at the same time

waht do you mean by moisture coming out of the stone?
why would you want that?

Its because I am putting some stone quarries in an outside passage which ha no under concrete DPM. If I install the tiles they will need to be able to breathe to let out the substrate moisture allbeit slowly.

Having posted I have now taken up the tiles ready for cleaning and relaying and the substrate is rubbish so now need to use an epoxy to sort that out so will probably just epoxy DPM on top of that and then self level. easy job is turning into a night mare.

Once I have cleaned up the tiles it is leaving a fine white haze on them. I think this is the result of the render and mortar that has been spilled on them over the years. What is the best way to clean off grout haze from textured quarry tiles?

Are you sure the fine white stuff is not efflorescence from them sitting on a substrate with no DPM?

Good point. I dont think it is but cannot be absolutely certain. This is based on the fact that it wasn't apparent when I started rendering the passageway out. It is probably a combination of both cos I just finished renering out the passageway yesterday. I also used a retarder in the render (cos I'm a bit slow at that bit) so there is probably some retarder soaked into the tiles as well.
