Hi gang am at my sisters in camberley on a mission of mercy. They are doing their bathroom up so that they can sell the house. She had tried to tile a wall around the bath and ended up with a v shape in the middle of her tiles at which point she decided to give up and call in the professional!!! lol..... Anyway this is easily put right however upon inspection of their walls with all the tiles taken off they appear to be constructed from straw! Can anyone enlighten me as to what exactly the walls are made out of?
They have plasterboarded around the bath area and I'm thinking that the joints need taping and filling before the tiles go on but can I have confirmation on this because I can't remember if this isnecessary or not but I think it is......

Thanks a lot

Ps I will be removing the tiles my sister put up and re doing them lol....

Those walls containing the straw are a type of paramount wall pre-constrcuted and installed on site.....

You can strengthen the joints in the board with a scrim tape or similar...

Can you post a pic so we can see exactly what you have to sort out....

cheers..

I agree there Sibs......patch in the wall with gypsum wall board adhesive and then this will allow a better key for the gypsum board adhesive when you dot & dab over it............I would have normally said use Kerdi to bridge the cracks but it doesn't look stable enough to stick to..so i think over board is the best bet......

Only thing i think needs addressing is it looks like mould there and if so those spores might come back through the new boarding.....so a spray with some sort of anti mould will help....

good luck.........

Thanks a million dave and whitebeam who came up with the idea. It does seem like the best bet and yes will try to get rid of as much of the mold as poss. Nice one!

On a bathroom at the mo with the same prob although the whole wall is tiled. If i try and take the tiles off carefully then patch up over straw with drywall addy, should this give a firm hold to dot and dab onto?

Thanks in advance

Thanks dave i was a bit worried as this is one of my first few jobs. Hope i dont get many with straw walls.
