If it was me I would want more info on the type/ scale of the jobs he passes to you.
For example if its new builds and extentions etc to large high end properties then it would hopefully be large areas (e.g. 20 plus metre floors) so I would opt for smq price and take the odd hit when the small jobs come in which shouldnt be often. On the other hand if its smaller areas like
standard kitchens or bathrooms then the day rate may be better as I reckon more could be earned this way.
A friend who is a tiler in my local area got offered similar type of work recently after we laid 600x900 limestone that they supplied. He was offered a sqm price for fixing the stone. The average job was a fair size and most tiles were large 300x600 upwards. All materials supplied e.g. adhesives, grout, mats etc. This was a good deal due to the size of most jobs (big kitchen, hall, conservatory floors before finnsihing trades come in)
Another tiler actualy tried to take credit for this work  and this offer didnt get discussed further.
