subby rates??

may have the opportunity to do some work for a ktichen/bathroom firm co and they have asked me how much i,d want ......never subbed work out and am quoting customers £20-40 sqm so would i expect to get the same as a subby or do i ask for less....got a meeting soon with them and the price issue was mentioned on the phone as we arranged to meet....i palmed them off saying we could talk about it later.....................don,t want to go in too high and similarly dont, want to under price myself either.........any advice please....

Clearly they are only looking for a tiler based on price here mate so use the basic products where possible (perhaps you over-egineer a bit now?) and go in with a slightly lesser price and negotiate.

Most of them want tilers as cheap as possible so they can profit.You will be lucky to get 20 and if you do the pressure will be put on you from them from the start"we expect a top quality job for that price"type of comments,been there wont go back,stick to my domestics.This is my opinion,just try for what you think you are worth but you wont get domestic rates that you can achieve on your own.A friend of mine works for a tile company and gets 10quid m2.

this seems like a smaller company on the face of it as the guy in charge was tiling when i spoke to him.....so seems like a smaller venture rather than a big firm......better or wrose??
he said he has more bookings than they can cope with at the moment and wants to pass some jobs and i assume he,d want to take some cut on what he has priced the job up for......................i think i,ll just suggest my normal rate and go from there............if he,s tiling aswell then he must appreciate the work and have some idea of what most people would work for.......
i,m with most of you on the sub contracting for bigger firms though and am not seeking to go down that path at all.....quite enjoy being in control of my time and effort so far.
