is there any TTA tilers in the region of middlesbrough.
I have had a bathroom company i my house to completely refurbish. My tiles are porcelain and the tiler has used a tub adhesive even though i asked them to use the appropriete powder based including porcel bond.I was given the information regarding the correct adhesive to use by the manager of topps tiles.I then gave the bathroom fitters this information and they said they would use what i asked, they didnt use it.they have used a water based which says on tub not suitable for porcelain tiles. They have also used 5mm plywood on my floor which is overlaid on timber floor boards. They have also grouted walls far to soon and laid and grouted floor within 1 hour which goes against British Standards. Can anybody assist me on this matter please.cheers

Can't help you with locating an assessor, best you contact the TTA, but from what you have written everything about the tiling is wrong!!

thanks for reply.the company are saying the tiling will be o.k but my arguement is that they should of done it with the correct materials and i dont want them back in my house.they should of done it correctly in the first place.i just want the tiles removing and the tiling done as it was supposed to

If i read this correct, you asked them to use certain materials for fixing tiles which they agreed to but in the end they used different? I woould ask them why.
You are correct that grouting of floor was done far too early, they cant get out of that, no matter what adhesive was used.
Their guarranteee is worth nothing if they cant even be trusted to stick to their original words by using correct adhesive.
Do you have the adhesive buckets for the wall tiles, if so keep them for proof that it is not suitable for porcelain.
Insist the work is corrected to your satisfaction, you have to let them have the chance of putting it right.
Put all this in writing and send registrered post. Give them 14 days to respond, instruct them that if you are not given satisfaction that you will seek legal advice.......DO NOT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT WITH HOLDING PAYMENT.
Did they say when final payments should be paid by?
Finally send a free bag of oats for the cowboys horses.

The TTA do have an inspection service but it is around the £650 mark to get this service...or you get an independent tiler to do a report...but that is less likely to stand up than a governing bodies report will...

Good luck.. We are hearing more and more of these type of strories...

Another call from me for tiling to be licenced..

ive already given them 14 days to come back which they refused point blank.i sent them the data sheets etc as proof.they have now said 2 month later that they will come back with adhesive company and take tiles off in different places to see if adhesive has bonded.
my arguement is that i dont want the stress of them coming back into my house.i have given them plenty of opportunitys to correct there faults.i just want someone else in to rectify there bad work and take it from there invoice if possible

I would ask for them to get the Adhesive company to give you a call or call them and ask why they state not for porcelain if they are prepared to now say its ok .

I'm not wanting to critersise your problems but you sound like you have a good idea of the materials and methods involed so why did you allow them to do the job if you weren't happy about certain aspects of it?

This has been going on for a while so i started asking you good guys who have since told me other unsuitable work they have done.
I originally asked them to use the powder based flexible adhesive which includes porcel bond. This information was given to me buy Topps Tiles manager(great bloke) from were i bought the tiles from. The bathroom fitters agreed to use the agreed adhesive but on the morning of tiling they just brought the floor adhesive but not the wall. They told me the tiler was bringing that with him.The tiler convinced me it was the correct adhesive.
After laying and grouting my floor with 5mm plywood and also tiled and grouted in about an hour it made me concerned.I went to see Topps Tiles and told them everything that had happened, also took an empty tub of the adhesive used(not suitable for porcelain and the size of my tiles).
They told me that things had been done incorrectly and tiles could come away.
