Wot a day ive had, infact the last couple of months havent been good!!
The phone has been very quiet, so quiet i have even resorted to ringing myself to check the phones are working :dizzy2:
I have been to price a few jobs but havent got any of them, whats going on i wonder, any way it turns out there is some one pricing jobs at a rediculous price per m2!! I mean YTS money, I earnt more then that in 1990!!!! I rang a couple of other tilers i know in the area and they aren't getting any work either, and they confirmed that they had heard the same!!!
Any way I got a phone call yesterday, and i went to price it up today, with portfolio in hand and letters of recommendation from previous clients and a happy smile! I jumped into the van and got six miles up the road and it bursts into flames :mad2::mad2::mad2: After the commotion of the van being extinguished and being removed from the side of the road all in all about 2hrs later i phoned the customer to appologise and explain what had happened and i was now on my way!! to be told that he had just seen another tiler and had excepted his quote there and then:thumbsdown:
well i dont know, now i feel really down! I hope that tomorrow is a better day!! sorry for boreing you with my probs, just wanted to get it off my chest..
P.S thanks for listening

Your not the only one mate, it been like that all year for me, Daughter being told she has ME, wife's car having to be scrapped due to huge electrical fault. Then last Monday i lost my boxer dog in the woods, she came every where with me, and she knew these woods like the back of her paw, put signs up, spoke to police, vets, dog warden etc but no sign of her  family is devastated.

Hey, I'm sorry to hear about your situation. It might sound a little patronising but I don't mean to be; but when you go in and quote try and talk a lot about why the price is the price it is, making them assume if they see a cheaper prices they'll be cutting back on something somewhere. Mention you use the best adhesives and will get them some discount on them, you tile the the best standard, afterall the tiles WILL be on for a long time and there's no other way to go about it. Mention a lot about how tidy you work and how much care you put into the jobs. And if you dare to be cheeky enough, mention 'the amount of jobs you're going in to fix just lately due to unskilled traders undercutting the skilled and not doing the job correctly causing re-fixes' or something along those lines.

Chin up and chest out and walk away if they're hammering you down or mentioning cheap this cheap that etc.

Try to aim for a higher class of work who'll never go for the cheap undercutter. Do leaflet drops in those sorts of areas (it's a 1% retun on them, so post 1,000 and you should get 10 enquiries (oops, I did say 100, see posts below) - www.facemediagroup.com for PROFESSIONAL leaflets that knock the socks of doing your own).

Walk around tescos in your printed up t-shirt with your name on and WALL AND FLOOR TILER in massive letters (read that in some other post somewhere - though it was a great idea) and don't sit and wait for the phone to ring, get the van out there and on B&Q car parks and really get your thinking cap on.

All the best and good luck.

Oh dear that is a bad day, mine has not been too good either, I got up this morning, went into the bathroom, opened the cupboard door and the handle fell off!, Went downstairs and made a cup of tea and the handle fell off my cup! I have been bursting for a wee all day but dare not go just in case!:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Feeble attempt to cheer peckers up I know but its worth a try.

i know how it is mate im in the same situation ive no work on at the minute and my van wont start ive done all the leaflet drops phoning around and no joy im even considering going back full time with a tiling firm its can be hard and depressing

The thing is no-one is building, I know 3 firms that I subby to and they have nothing on the books, my local tile shop has a 50% off everything, they have laid two people off.
I am out in the morning and going around every building renovation I can find, if its out there I will find it tomorrow.

:mad2::mad2: this wall is GOING DOWN!!!!

AIDRIAN...............!!!!! YO, AIDRIAN.......11111111111111

you may want to look at your figures again Dan:oops:
I'll get your coat for you:lol:

LMFAO - I don't think the fingers are to blame there! **shakes head about a bit** - **hears a rattle**

lol

To correct that (and I'll do the original post too) you'll get 10 enquiries, NOT 100!

oops
