Hi,
I'm currently planning on installing a Wet room soon and I've been researching on the various tanking/waterproofing methods.
At the moment, this is the setup of the existing bathroom/toilet.
The whole room is L=2700 x W= 1200mm and the wet room area to be used will be L 900 x W 1200mm.
The left & right side of the bathroom are boarded and the back is a brick and all areas has been tiled....see attached pics.
New Wet Room Installation
I'm planning on removing all the tiles, board the whole shower/wet areas including the existing back brick wall with Marmox waterproof Tile backer board of thickness 12.5mm. The floor at the moment has got a 20mm place on the wooded floor.
Issues at the moment
Thinking of using the Impey Membrane products but from what they say, they dont recommend using the membrane on the wall if you will be tilling to some certain weight, think 20kg etc.
On top of the 20mm board on the floor, i'm planning on using the Marmox board maybe 6-10mm thick to cover the existing floor board, which will flush and be levelled with the shower tray/aqua dec tray.
I'm trying to get the best tanked/waterproof wet area so my questions now are:
1. Will using Marmox tile backer boards (12.5mm thick) to water proof the walls will be ok? (remember the left & right walls are boarded and the back is bricked)
2. What is the suitable thickness of Marmox tile backer board to use ontop of the existing floor board or this is not needed?
3. As mentioned, Impey doesnt recommend using their Tilesafe membrane roll on walls but is this possible to use as i will be using the tilesafe on the floor areas and will also like to use it on the wall as I saw a programme on BBC cowboy traps whereby the BBC team/tiler used the tilesafe on the walls and floor.
4. What is the suitable adhesive to use in holding the tile backer boards to the walls?
My intended installation method (Want it to be as tanked/waterproof)
1. Board the walls using Marmox waterproof tile backer boards (12.5mm) thickness
2. Board the existing floor (20mm) thick with a Marmox tile backer board with 6mm thick. OR should i use plywood on the existing floor board?
Then follow the Impey installation (as shown on Impey website video instruction/installation)
3. Apply Impey joining tapes/corner tapes along the edges of where the tile boards meet together.
4. Prime the whole area.
5. Use the Impey Tilesafe membrane on the walls and floors to cover the aqua dec/shower tray.
6. Use the Silicon/jointing compound.
7. Lay the underfloor Devi mat.
8. Tile the whole wall/floor with Travertine tiles from Wickes.
So my main concern is can I use the marmox tile backer baords on the walls and as well use the tilesafe membrane on the wall/floor? If i can not use the tilesafe on the wall, what would you recommend i use or should I just use a primer to prime the surface and use alternative liquid base membrane then install tiles?
Many thanks for your time reading this and any inputs will be highly appreciated.
Thanks
