Hello and thank you to the forums new member and sponsor Andy from Corner tape i was prob 1 of the first to buy a roll and used it for the first time today and would like to thank the man for sending me a lovely item prompt postage and exactly as described.
I have never been good at siliconing but the cornertape is in a leauge of its own. The job i used it on was a small kitchen splashback around the worktop and the elderly lady whose kitchen it was said i was permitted to take pics tomorrow after grouting.
The tape is a little expensive and could soon add up on long runs but as a whole for small jobs which i mainly do really makes the diffeance to those who are proud of thier work and want it to be perfect. Like my erlier work Dave posted on the thread Rogues Gallary lol thank you Andy wil definately buy again highly recommended

As you say it can be expensive. I worked it out that a 25metre roll could easily be used in an average bathroom. If you were to Silicon every edge inc the floor then maybe more tape would be needed.
Its not only the cost of the material but the time taken to apply the tape in the 1st place, time is money as they say.
Personally i have enough trouble getting my clients to pay the low rate i charge for sealant anyway. I cant see them paying extra, i cant take the cost myself.
How long did it take you to apply the tape yourself?

Foolishly many years ago I bought myself this gadget from Screwfix.

p1206508_l.jpg

Run a bead of Silicon on the window seal. Use the tool and bang.... Splodges of silionce all over the place.

My tecnique (if you can call it that) is to go sparingly on the Silicon and to use my little finger to smooth it. My index finger to finish off.

Problem? The tiles cut my pinkies to shreds.

What happened was that I paid for my tiler to come and tile. He managed to finish all the tiling then asked ME to grout and Silicon a week later.

Easy I thought.....

I am not sure what the tips are for running Silicon but I was told you need a steady hand to apply, a steady (and wet finger) and not to use too much.

Amazingly there are also companies that come round just to do siliconing work. I found this out from my mate Andy who is a tiler. On top london jobs he leaves it well alone because the Silicon man has to do things like sinks, toilet pans, funny shapes. Apparantly he has a whole kit bag of little shapes and tools to make these perfect Silicon finished.

OK if its a top insall. But most jobs - who is going to outsource to the man?

Thats great I'm so pleased that you are happy with the product, I would love to see the pics of the job. In fact if you send me a normal email with the pics attached i'll put them on the cornertape web site. If you could recommend it to you local shop that would be great, i'm sure that they could work on the price with you. Also I've got a sample of a 2.5mm roll now which is ultra fine,

Many thanks
Andy

I think its like any new tool it takes a few goes to find your confidence with it, I would imagine that the first time that anyone uses a tile cutter they are a little careful, but over a short space of time they get faster and faster and more confident. Cornertape is just another tool, in a very short space of time it is very fast to apply esp' on longer runs.

I was talking to a guy yesterday that told me that he did an average size wet room/bathroom and used about 20/25 metres of Silicon and it took about about 1.5 hours to get the finish he wanted.

Would you guys agree with this?

If so, thats a long time and 'Time is Money'.

As they say in a famous Tv advert 'shoulda gone to spe_ sa_ers',

or is it 'shoulda used cornertape', hehe.

best regards
Andy:thumbsup:

And how does one go about applying corner tape around basins and around baths where the taps are so close to the wal you can barely get the nozzle of the Silicon gun into ?

Hi Sir Ramic,

If the taps are as close as that then I don't think any method will work very well.

But in answer to your question the cornertape is about 25mm wide from the fold to the edge with the silver foil being just 18mm so as long as you have got about 16/18 mm between the wall and the taps it should fine. Because the tape is quite stiff when you are applying it (i.e it still has the clear backing on) you can easily lift the roll up and around the taps and then bring it back down once you've cleared the taps and carry on, no need to cut and restart the other side of taps etc.

Hope that answers it

Best regards
Andy:thumbsup:

he really does pump out loads of silicon on the demo video !!
how much is this corner tape?

Hi burncross,

Yes he's doing it to show that you can be really crap with a gun, i have done demo's and pumped out the Silicon straight from the end of the gun, (i.e i removed the nozzel) i applied a bead of about 10/12 mm which ended up being a perfect just to prove that point too.

You cert'ly would not want to use as much as in the demo. You only need to apply as much as you normally do, using cornertape means that you end up with a better finish, in less time, less mess, much less stress and lower blood presure.

The SRP is (as Sir Ramic states) £19.99 inc VAT but who pays retail prices unless you shop in the high street, if you know what I mean. :grouphug: I know that you will pay less at a trade counter espec'ly if you have an account. You also have look at how long your Silicon work takes at the moment in terms of time spent.

best regards
Andy

where do you buy the tape from

It should soon be available from CTD in Manchester, if you use them. if you use another you could give me their ndetails and i'll speak to them.

Best regards

Andy

Hi Guys,

Just to let you know, I've spoken to CTD 2day and they've promised that we will soon be into all CTD's very soon, such is the responce from you guys. If anyone out there is looking to buy 'cornertape' but can't then please, please, please give me a 'heads up' and we'll get onto it straight away.

many thanks
Andy

looked at the tape at interbuild show, whats the matter with squesy bottle with washing up liquid and a finger

Hehe, sounds like a challange, bring your bottle and finger to the HBR show in April and we'll see, i'll even send you some free tickets, no probs.

Just one thing to ask though, do you squirt water and washing up liquid onto your wet grout or do you go back to the job after your grout's dried out and then Silicon?

Best regards
