is there a reason why the basin pipes are,nt concealed within the pedestal where that should be

Yes - the cavity in the pedestal is very narrow and only just wide enough for the pedestal trap. As I was using chrome pipe with the stainless flexi tap connectors I didn't think it was too much of a problem aesthetically.

it is his first job and he has done very well ,but that is a good point you make about the pipes and something he can think about on his next job.it spoils a very nice job mate
