Just back from first day of kitchen floor tiling - or not.
Got there to clear the floor and get it ready when I met the lady of the house for the first time. The son had bought the tiles etc whilst she was still in hospital. He had had the kitchen refitted too - good lad.
As I tore up part of the lino to reveal a really sad old concrete floor (definately a self leveling job) she asked me to put a few tiles down.
It was obvious that she didn't like the style or the colour, so that was two of us, then she said she had always wanted and prefered a laminate floor. I had to agree, for that kitchen and for her circumstances a laminate floor was the way to go. She spoke to her son and they will get a refund, so all is well. The relief on her face was obvious.

Apart from my two visits and a pricing up trip, no major expense.

Would anyone have done differently?

Better luck next time

I would have done exactly the same Frogeye mate. No point in having an unhappy customer, whether it was you fault or not.

Hi Gaz
As for me fitting the laminate it was not an option open to me in the end as her son is a dab hand at doing it - the things you learn when you are talking to customers

Not to worry Froggy, think you did the right think by your customer....well done.....Gaz

Cheers Grumpy

It would have been really easy to talk her into this job and laying ufh too. But you know whats right.

I had been working up to this job for the last few days, so it was a bit of a damp squib at the end.

I think I will have to talk my mom into letting me loose on her kitchen 🙂

You did the right thing, keep the customer happy, a bad reputation by virtue of your work or attitude will spread quickly. A good reputation is slow to spread but worth its weight in gold (gold ££££)

Well done frogeye, the right thing to do, similar thing has happened to me a couple of time, but you feel good when you make a correct call, poorer  but good  . Coco

u r a top man what u did was right and that will go a long way for u 1 day GOD s watching everything. i was once in same position but lady made me put all tiles down then said she didnt like the tiles in the ned had to re lay new ones and that was the only time i wished i used cheap adhesive instead of BAL took some taking off but we got there in the end and as luck had it she passed me on to her neighbours and did 5 jobs on that road between me and my partner.Honestly goes a long way in life.
