Any trade can have highly skilled 'Craftsmen' (and women) it just depends on the person. There are some real artisans in tiling though and ours is an aesthetic trade aswell as becoming more highly technical.

I always mitre trims, as for the back piece of the niche, I have followed joints on some and not on others, I've settled on not following joints as per first pic

Actually, artisan fits our trade very well. It is massively over-used though, so it's meaning is really naff now.
Artisan bread, artisan cheese, artisan milk....

It's egotistical if you ask me. It's up the customer to say whether you're an artisan, but to call it yourself is just plain BS.

I have to disagree Dan! Very few customers are capable of judging properly. Far better to be judged by peers.

I of course, would never say I'm that good.

When customers ask me if I am the best, I am very humble...
I say I'm not the best - but I am definitely in the top 1 🙄
