DIY Tiler
Hi all! I want to put tile above a shower in one of my bathrooms. The wall has paint and or plaster or something peeling off of the drywall, and has traces of mold showing (see pictures). I think the people we bought the house from 2-1/2 years ago did a quick patch job to try and make it look nice for the sale, but it isn't lasting. It's a relatively small area. I've read a few things here and there, and was wondering if I should remove the drywall and install some other type of backing board. I also saw that a moisture barrier stapled to the studs beneath that is a good idea. Do I need to do this? I'm also worried about whatever backing board I'm using being flush with the remaining drywall. I want to make sure I get the prep work right before I even think about installing the tile.
