tile behind a gas fire

Hi All

I am looking for some advice, i am going to be fitting a new fire surround and gas fire.

I am going to be tiling the wall behind the fire ,would i be able to use ceramic tiles or will it have to be porceain tiles due to the heat of the fire.

I am going to be fitting hardie board to the wall then tile on top of the board.

Are you Gas Safe registered?
Make sure the Hardie is well fixed and use a bagged cement bades adhesive with flexibility.
The glaze of a modern day ceramic tile may craze with the heat, so quarry/porcelain/or stone may be preferable.

Hi Stevie & welcome to TF. Please make sure your fire is fitted by a Gas Safe engineer. As above, make sure your hardi is well fixed & use a flexible adhesive.

I see you do property maintenance. Where are you based!

Cheers Timeless John and Bubblecraft for the reply`s, my mate who is connecting up the gas fire is a Gas Safe Engineer.

I was going to use adhesive and screws/plugs to secure the board firmly to the wall.
