Tiling advice...

Hi all,

OK, firstly, my tiler knows what should be done as per college and courses. But, in the real world, work is done beyond the time and thicknesses that are on the back of bags :smilewinkgrin: He (tiler) has put up too 50mm on this bathroom wall's in places:yikes: This was done on tues/wed this week, he knows it can take upto 2 weeks for it too dry. But, we don't have 2 weeks to crack on, the client doesn't have another bathroom to use! What would be the bare minimum time-frame we can put travertine tiles on, they are 450x305mm and 10mm thick. In a cold room is drying out, Don't want any textbook replies, He know's the weight per cm etc etc.... REAL WORLD experience, has anybody put on tiles within 48hrs? Weber rapid set plus, will there be any adverse effects? Cheers angry tiler up north :mad2:

50mm of what?

Do you mean that he has plastered the walls?

If you tile over the plaster before it is COMPLETELY dry the plaster will shrink, breaking the bond of the adhesive and the trav will fall off the wall taking the adhesive with it. Not worth playing that game.

Why would anyone be putting up 50mm of plaster, if I uderstand right.

You may not want to hear it but.....Plaster must be dry before fixing those Travertine. As for your time limits, they should have been taken into account at the start of the job and the client informed.

you should have plasterboarded the walls to straighten them. this way you could tile on them pretty much straight away and more strength to hold the travertine, better than plaster.
