Tiling Around A Mirror

Not strictly tiling but hope you guys have some experience that can help me.

I'm about to tile my bathroom wall and I want to fix a large (roughly 3' x 4') mirror to the wall and tile around it. I have the mirror (just a plain sheet of glass with silvered backing - no frame) and the tiles. What I can't figure out is how to trim it around the edge. I'm reluctant to just butt the tiles up against the mirror partly because I don't think it will look right and partly because the mirror is old and although in otherwise good condition the silver backing is a little tatty at the edges.

What I had in mind is putting a shiny silver trim strip around the edge. Something like a U channel or a tile edging trim. Trouble is I can't find anything like that from the usual suppliers. I can find something close but it's too big - the mirror is only 4mm thick.

Any suggestions for where I might find something like that? Or any better ideas?

It's a good thought. I don't think it will hide the dodgy silver backing at the edge though.

Something like this that would allow the glass to slot underneath the trim would be better: Dural Duraplus Stainless Steel Rectangular Edge Trim - Stainless Steel Square Tile Trim - Square Tile Trims but every one I can find is much too big. The trim is more than twice as thick as the mirror glass.

Done exactly what you're trying to achieve, although the mirror was cut to suit to 'hole' created by the tiles. The top part was actually a trim with Swarovski crystals that went all the way around the room, but the rest of the sides were just polished 10mm box trim

Should chair rail tiles be centered off the mirror and be symmetrical . I have one a little piece on one side of the mirror and another size on the other. I specifically ask for it to be done this way
