Tiling Contract in London

Tilers Forums Official Sponsors

Think the main thing is why they're giving it away on a forum - done work for a squad myself for a few years and any job you couldn't do, you knew another 10 sqauds that you'd ask or even make up a group from the various outfits if it was really an emergency. Anything subbed out was always kept inside the realms of mutual back scratching. Either way, stoneface will be getting a good turn at it within the price.

looks like a decent enough job if you need the work. rate for fixing doesnt seem very good to me , but i dont do commercial stuff.
just remember big areas dont necessarily mean big dosh.
some key info missing, like access , who brings stone in, ground floor work or 10th floor with no lift!!
restrictive hours?
Agree jonnyc, rates are not the best. They don't say what stone (its important, some stone takes longer to treat/clean/seal) If they pay same rates per sq.m for steps -wrong. If one step is about 900x200x250 , it makes about 2 steps =1 sq.m. It should be £50-£80 per step and riser, depending on size/finish/profile. Same with wall cladding (different rates). As all members said, there would be 100-200 questions to ask. If somebody was to take on this projet, stoneface should email/fax big fat book with specifications, drawings. But who knows, maby they ok?
Anyway-it's a bit risky

Sorry Jonny, I re-read what you had wrote and yes we are both on the same page, along with Gary, Nybor, and everyone else. They say nothing about the depth of the stone, some poor swine could end up lugging 30mm stone around the site and then be told he's got to cut it outside. The treads and risers could come in oversized, so they would have to be cut down. I think they put in a cheap price to get the work, and then have worked out its going to cost them a fortune to send their own people down to London to do the works. Perhaps its my pessimistic nature of thinking that if sounds to good to be true it normally is. The alarm bells went off when I saw the cladding, we do a lot of cladding and its backbreaking, labour intensive, and soul destroying at times. I just have a feeling someone will get stung badly.

My accountant mate will get me more details on Wednesday but it sounds like there's no point TBH. haha

Good thread peeps. 🙂

This job was won by a member of the forum who is a Contractor in the area. So it turns out it was worth it for somebody in the end. Not sure of the details but they are a firm who tender regularly for large contracts (perhaps nearly always jobs bigger than this one by the sounds of it).

Had a nice PM thanking me from the member.
