Personally I'd use the 30 years experience in your own trade to set up a business for yourself.
Age isn't the issue here - its the time it will take for you you reach the level of skill/business that will provide an income to be able to enjoy tiling as a trade.
Look at combing the two - screen printing on tiles/cup etc - and see if there is a market for personalised/coporate marketing products.

Hi. I have just started an nvq also and i am 38 this time. I think it is about ones capacity to learn and desire to aquire the experience which will get us through. It's a tough time start anything but it is also time where we can get experience we otherwise wouldn't have got.
