Tiling on painted walls

Hello everyone

I am a new member and would like to ask for your advice. I am getting different opinions on whether to strip the paint off the walls in my bathroom before treating it with BAL Prime APD for tiling. The seller said I don't need to, tilers said I do. Also if I have to can I use a heat gun (I understand chemical treatment is a no no)?

Second question is do I seal the polished marble tiles I've got BEFORE installing them or only after they are on the wall before grouting?

What condition is the paint in? stick a bit of tape to the paint and see if any paint comes off when you pull it off if it does then I would say to remove all paint if it doesn't then sand it down and key the paint before you prime

The best way to describe it is to say score with a knife to give the adhesive more chance of getting a grip

You need to be careful of possible weight issues if you are fixing polished marble onto walls. Surely any painted surface will not support the weight of the tiles?

Some more information on your substrate would be useful please?

if the painted walls are in good nick and the paint isn't flacking off it will be fine.as for sealing the tiles,you'll be using a white adhesive any way with marble tiles,flexy on stud walls so sealing them grout then seal will be ok

As Dave says, are the blocks skimmed? if so a heat gun could damage the plaster. also as stated skimmed walls will not take the weight. I would deffo remove all the paint. That then leaves the question,"are the blocks flat enough to take a tile?" very rare they are.
