Tiling on polished plaster walls.

Hello good people, i have a job coming up soon which involves tiling onto polished plaster using limestone mosaic on 30x30 sheets. I was going to use mosaic fix, will i need to give the walls a sanding first do you think or use another adhesive?

mosais fix is excellent, sand and brush down would be good prep but remember to put on a primer (not PVA) before tiling.

hi mate,limestone mosaics i think may be too heavy for skim plaster,what thickness are they i assume at least 8 to 10mm,plus alll the extra grout weight ,the call is yours but they dont advise stone to be fixed to skim plaster mate

on a more positive note as tommy says keep your adhesive white mind and seal as well limestone can take a few coats

Thanks for the advice, surely the mosaic can't be that heavy, it's also a little late as the client has already purchased them, think i will take my chances and make sure the walls are rubbed down well and i plan to paint on Bal APD primer.

hi mate,the recommeneded weight limit for plaster skim is 20 kilos per sq metre,,all stone once adhesive and grout is taken into consideration is heavier than this

How big an area is it? How high do you need to tile?

As long as you have a good public liability insurance you could take a chance.

I think we need to know the extent you are tiling first Jstrats

Weigh a sheet of the mosaic and times this by 11, which will give you the m2 weight of the mosaic

Come back with that weight and the extent you are tiling and we might be able to save you any unnecessary work
