I have three rooms to tile for an old lady in a couple of weeks and she wants me to tile straight on top of the old tiles. I have done the tap test and all seems ok, I know to clean thoroughly with sugar soap, but I need some advice please on a couple of things from there...

1) what is the best adhesive to use?
2) I read on another thread about scoring the old tiles...how and what with?
3) one of the rooms is only tiled half way up the walls. What is the best way of finishing? I have told her to look for a border tile that would cover both the old tile and new tile edges, but are there any other ideas you could suggest?

Cheers

As you know chris we are going to say pull them off.....but i know its not always practical.....so i would use BAL spf to tile with and i personally don't think there is a need to to score them but each to there own......
as for finishing the top off where it is half tiled...you could use a thickish border or maybe dado rail or even a quadrant tile like this one....

just got 71 sqm to do for a builder in a toilet block. two week refurb so he wont remove tiles. looks like spf all the way. only using 8x4 tiles so should be fine

For tiling onto glazed tiles, BAL would recommend BAL Rapidset with the AD1 admix (diluted 1:1 with water). Need also to bear in mind the weight restrictions of the substrate with walls.

If they are glazed tiles and you want a slower setting mixture then CTF3 with AD1 admix will be fine as well....
