tiling round a window

didnt say he wasnt. i answered him first time rather than answering him with a question like he did for me!

it may be basic stuff but had i have known the answer i would nt of asked the question. ??

like i said just needed refreshing. done a course ages back and ive not done much tiling since, and you dont remmember everything - well not me anyway, too much else going on to remember.

next time ill find out if my question is to basic to ask before i ask it. :smilewinkgrin:

Sometimes text can be read differently to what the poster intended and if you are unsure of how it was meant then maybe it be wise to ask what was meant by the remark etc..

I don't think grumpy meant to intenionally upset you or degrade your question and our policy is the only stupid question is one that is not asked....

All im saying is it MAY have been better for GG to have give some impeccable voluntary advice with regards to the question and then ended his post with HES question to determine my tiling ability.

like you say its voluntary advice so if you dont want to give any then dont. but i dont think its fair to responed to a basic question with "did you not learn this on your training"

its also fair comment as Dave said - what someone writes can be misunderstood when reading it. so as an experienced forum poster responding to a basic question from a newishby then mayby GG should have taken this into account. :incazzato:

Golddigger, I was only asking the question to try and find out what your level of knowledge was, maybe I worded my response wrongly I don't know, but all I asked was if you had gone through this on your training. If you had not, then I could have gone into a long winded explanation of how I was taught to do it. If you had been taught how to do it, then the way I was taught may well have conflicted with your training and cause confusion. If you had come back and said yes I went through it sometime a go but I need to refresh my memory then you would have got a more detailed response....to say "there is always one" doesn't exactly fill me with the desire to pass on what I learned through my expensive training. As it is, you seemed to have sorted out your problem, I hope the job has gone well for you with pleasing result. Don't be frightened to ask questions, as Dave says none of them are stupid, but if you get a response like mine, answer it and wait for further info to come your way. I wasn't having a pop, was just trying to feel out your ground.

Golddigger - I've followed this thread for 2 days now and I know I'am going to make a statement that will not please you.

I originally read Grumpys post the way I saw it - a blunt but accurate reply which I wish I'd said.
From the 'thanks' I assume that others saw it the same way.
However re-reading it I can see an alternate reply with respect to what is taught in your training and the way Grumpy had intended it to be read.

However your replies only confirm to me that you have no sense of humour and possibly have never or will ever be able to work on a building site.
Petulence is a word which springs to mind in your replies and instead of whingeing I would thank Grumpy for taking the time to explain his position and accept that his input - as ever -is impeccable

An experienced tiler that comes on and talks rubbish deserves a bashing but a new tiler that is genuinely asking for help come on give a man a chance . So grumpy every thing you was told went straight in and you never had to ask any one for any advice from that day on ?

Don't know if you have actaully read my responses Deano but all I did was ask an initial question, to which I got a sarcastic reply. I have asked advice on these forums before and yes some of it was to clarify points of my training but in reality my questions have been very few over the last 2 years. All I was trying to establish was whether Golddigger had actually been taught at any stage what to do in the circumstance. You have been on these forums long enough to know that I give lots of advice and I do it within the bounds of my own knowledge and experience, and I give it freely, to even the most fundemantal of questions! I'm not sure why you have now jumped in at the end of the thread to question my responses as it was explained in earlier posts!

I had obviously mis read your reply to such a thread, to a way I wanted it to read and my little ditty to you has turned a totally appropriate Question into a response that was not your intention - SORRY!.

Not sure why you think you need to apologise John but thanks anyway. I hadn't taken any offence to any remarks by anybody but isn't it strange how one post taken out of context can open a whole can of worms!!

Lets all try and get the thread back on track and if Golddigger still wants to know how to tile around a window, lets tell him. I am sure everyone has their own tried and tested methods of doing this, maybe it would be interesting to see how everyone actually does it.
