Tiling stairs

Wel actually its not a stair, but a large porch area, with two platforms. so two steps to get to the front door.

total area arround 10m2

so in this area i have two exposed edges at the front of the step, the tile is 600 by 300 imitation black slate 6mm thick

question, i can make the tile flush with the front (so first a tile against the back of the upstand), then the next tile on top, flush with the front, or, i could use a aluminium tiling edge at the front, however it needs to be black, and i have the feeling that the aluminium tiling edgeto be less strong then the tile itself

the tile is a class 5 type, the tiling subfloor is concrete

What would you do? tiling with or without the aluminium tiling edge

I did a bit more research and saw the Schluter nosing profiles

I think that those will do a good job, so where can you buy these, and is 2.5mtr the longest length available

You could always mitre the edges so they nearly butt then grout them.

EDIT: that would give a weak spot, I suppose in hind sight that's bad on a stair lol

The steps would need to be the same measurment on the riser and step

Had a look around, and to be honest there are not many companies that supply these stair tile nosing profiles

I looked at the Dural, but don’t like them that much

I have had a quote from CTD and from The Tile Experience, not much of a difference in price around the £28, - ex vat for the TREP S for a length of 2.5m, although The Tile Experience can deliver within 3 days, even if it has to come from Germany, without delivery charge

I need around the 8 meter

have you tried to see if you can get that tile with a bullnose. you could go to the vertical tile with those, and they're quite hard wearing.

maybe try this to make your own.

That is a option if i hadn't seen the strips, i think the strips will be a nice finishing touch on the stairs

i'd agree with you there, but thought it may be an option if you missus wont have it. you can shape the slate yourself, with a grinder, but it's very hard to get an even bullnose on that kind of length.

i showed the strip to the missus yesterday, and she liked it, ( i hadn't told her how much it would cost though)

well that seems ok then. perhaps you should "lose" the receipt when you buy it though, just to be on the safe side.

I ordered the strips, they will be here today, i used The Tile Experience, they were very helpfull on the phone

I ordered the Trep S in black
