Tiling to ply

yeh man that chap lee is a great tiler and cares for the job. you can see that in his vids.... stef im amazed that those tiles managed to stay put there is next to zero serration on the back of those tiles it looks like the only thing holding them in place was the Silicon type grout that was originally used lol..... and i know i havnt been on here for ages but is it just you manning the site mate? can only see posts from you lol wheres everyone gone

No no Ash, I'm nothing to do with the forum m8,
That Silicon type grout is where I have siliconed over the original grout line with Silicon to try & hold the water back,
It's a very poor try at tiling & in only focusing on the ply as I've been at many a job where this exact thing has happened when the Builder has tiled onto ply!!

Yeah tiling to ply in bathrooms makes no sense to me........... Although i have done it several times when a builder suggests to a customer that it's fine and done it for years, can't be bothered to argue the point anymore, i always point out to the customer that it's not an ideal substrate in a wet area but most of the time they end doing what the builder says............... so i just tile it, get paid and bugger off and if the phone ever rang with a problem then they can kiss my sitter!
On the flip side, don't you just love it when you quote for a re-do and they come off like that..... Always feel like i have won the lottery or something.

Haha, know what you mean TJ, easy strip out.
It's not a great video but as I stated it's not a good surface to tile too, especially in a wet environment.
Builders love it & what they say is gospel..

hi mate yeh its going great atm, havnt been on for ages just been so tired from work lol pay isn't the best atm but it will come in the end just trying to tie up all the loose ends created from not working and having bills to pay for the last year and a half lol. il be back on regularly soon

Walked away from a job it was two big bathrooms,all plyed,porcs(notice on the boxes weight was 32kg) and tubbed adhesive,the builder said "fine there is a tiler out there that will do it its youre loss" think he will learn to regret what he said.

I walk away from so much work lately for all sorts of reasons, i really cannot be bothered to argue about this type of thing anymore and have grown to not give a sod if it all goes wrong if they don't listen.... that builder probably wont regret it mate, he'll come up with some rubbish that it's the installers fault cos he has had other tilers do it that way for years!!! Most important thing is that you saved yourself a headache and will probably get the call in the future to re-do it all properly. Don't forget to let us know when you do :lol:
