To seal or not to seal ???

Hi all
Quick question, I have recently subcontracted a tiler to tile a bathroom suite that I an fitting He haa tiled the room (wall & floors) but not siliconed anywhere The vertical & horizontal joints including around the window frame have already cracked & when questioned he has stated that siliconing the joints is not his trade & that I need to get someone else in. Is this normal practice ??

This depends on the tiler.. all the ones i know and those on here do silicone.. but i have heard some don't..

Some say it is the plumbers job... but as far as i concerned it is the tilers job.. his work so he should do it..

I agree with Dave, the only exeption is when sanitary ware has not been fitted yet ie: wash hand basin/ vanity unit etc.

A lot won't silicone as it may mean a return visit due to the grout being wet so they grout all joints. It also sounds like you've caught this guy out because if he was leaving it for siliconing ideally he shouldn't have grouted the corners etc.

I usually always silicone,however, sometimes,if pushed & I know the plumber,will ask him to do, if he is coming back 2 second fix.
