so in a couple of weeks I start my tiling course and after that im going to start with some jobs around the house and some things for my friends..I was looking at the trade tiler website and i added up the cost for all the tools on their starter tool list, it came to just over £1k. Ive been looking at other websites and trade tiler do offer very competitive prices (cant find a cheaper price for the tile cutters), but £1k seems like a lot of money to spend when you have just started. Is it worth hiring tools until im getting regular work? I guess i could borrow £1k but seems like a big risk.
any suggestions?

Hi Josh.

In my view, hire is money thrown away, I see your dilemma, why not buy the essentials first, a Rubi cutter can be had at a reasonable price, I just bought the TS-50 for £109, a couple of trowels, level etc, I'm sure you can make a kit for a lot less than the 1k you mentioned, what was in that kit.

Starting out is a risk, all depends how your fixed to take the chance.

Hope that helps, even a little.

Hi jag. Where are u doing your course? My advice would be to not buy anything until you have been on your course. By doing some tiling u will see what bits of kit are essentials. I've just done my course and brought my kit and I've managed to do it for just over £500 and it's not cheap rubbish. PM me if u want more details on prices and where from etc.

thanks, doing my course at the elite school of plastering in manchester (tesop). i think you get a few tools with the course so probably good idea to wait until then.
