Topps...

Last week I was saying how much I dislike topps and that I never use them. Then at the end of last week I was left with no choice as I had missed my local supplier the night before (I was working away from home) and there was a topps at the end of the road. So I thought that It cant be that bad, Its prob not as bad as I make out as I havnt been in there for so long, besides I only needed 4 lengths of stainless steel trim, one bag of rapid, 2 tubes of Silicon and 2 Silicon guns...

The guy behind the desk forgot to put the bag of rapid on the bill so it was just 2 x white Silicon 2 x cheap plastic Silicon guns and 4 x trim... £110!!!!! This is with my trade discount or so he said. I took them as I had little choice and went off to work. I broke the 2 guns before I had got through the first tube of Silicon.

The next day I took back the 4 trim as I was a bit unhappy at the price and would rather spend my money somewhere else, need one more bag of rapid... £32.48 for a bag of toppfix!!! I laughed soooo hard and told him where to put it. I said "I can get keraquick cheaper than that and thats Mapei!" so he told me that this stuff was made by palace and is far better than Mapei. I was still laughing as I walked out the door.

so the whole bill if they had put the rapid on would have been £142.00????? omg and this was with trade discount lol

i have never needed to use topps and quite possibly now never will.

have had a customer who supplied materials from topps 5 bags of addy and grout came to nearly £350.00 he said but its the best stuff on the market (according to the salesman) so much better than BAL MAPEI etc etc.

He was telling me that BAL are the best around and then its Palace, I think I made it pretty clear that I thought he was a total fool (Had to check to see which forum I had put this in there 😳)

I think it is just mad that they would try to tell me about this stuff, Im stood there in my tiling cloths with my company name across my chest and driving my van with my company name all over that and they are trying to teach me about adhesive. Brilliant.

Only been in Topps 3 times to buy anything. Once was a chrome tile trim but I wasnt bothered because the shopfitter was paying for it, if i remember correct it was about £16 (Newcastle under Lyme branch). Next was tamworth branch that tried to sell be their own (palace) SPF white for about £52 !!!! and I did buy a tile drill many years ago from Erdington , birmingham.
Not a place I choose to shop with.

I dont blame you, I have sworn never to step foot in any topps stores again and I will make a point of sending my customers to other stores. I used to let them go where they like for tiles but Id recommend Tile Giant and another local supplier I use and like but no more!

The bit i don't get with Topps is the "never the same price twice" policy.
It's not as if it's even close each time.
I've paid £23 for a addy/latex mix, only to be quoted £72 on the next visit???
I was told that i had not been in for a while so wasn't entitled to the full discount.
I made a point two years a go to never use them for tiles/addy.
I will admit that i do still buy the round edged grouting sponges, but only because i've not found them elsewhere.

I much prefer to give my business to Tile Giant.
Honest straight forward people, who are very helpful.
They deserve my business and get it!

why do you have to use them on a regular bases to get there best trade discount? surely if your in the trade then your in the trade.

i have a topps trade card as well , but it seems its only use is for scraping ice off my windscreen.

i must say i use topps all the time i dont have a problem with price, way cheaper than ctd and tile giant imo,they also price match and beat the price by 5% i cant understand all the negative reviews,u must have numptys working in your local topps tiles.:conehead:
