Hi,

I've just got a patio laid, 600 square tumbled travertine with 10mm joints - same as indoors, looks great.

Do I need to seal it to keep it looking good - in fact, as it's outdoors, is there any point? There is an outdoor table etc on it so I suppose food stains are possible...

Also, what's best to use to fill the joints outside? I want a dark grey or black, ideally something that won't be too hard to match closely with the tiles inside.

Thanks for your help, have learnt loads from this forum

depends on the look you want. keep it the same I would use Aqua Mix Sealers Choice Gold or Ultra Solv if you wanna enhance the colour then use Aqua Mix Enrich N Seal. Either way I would be using one of the premium sealers above and not a cheapo

Thanks for the info - will get a photo to post. I'll also find out whether those sealants can be used outdoors.

A builder laid the tiles as part of some other work, but they're no expert on natural stone, so we agreed that I'd sort out treating them and so on once laid.

The patio has been laid into a sand/cement bed, on top of a concrete slab (the old patio) - so there shouldn't be any movement. Or if there is, it's a much bigger problem as we've moved into an earthquake zone!!

For the grout/joint filling, I was thinking of using something like geofix jointing compound, as that seems the easiest to apply - what do you think? Mortar seems quite fiddly to avoid staining, and probably needs more patience than I can muster!!
