travertine tiles

I've got 3m of 30 by 20 travertine to fix on a splashback, is it possible to cut them with a normal tile cutter or do you have to use a wet cutter, thanks.

Cheers Dave, on some other threads people have said use a wet cutter dry, as in no water, is that right?

Yes!.. If you have a decent blade in your machine etc..then travertine will cut no probs dry....If you start to get excessive chipping or it is difficult to cut then use water...

If you are cutting dry then brush off the dust and then wipe with a damp sponge/cloth , leave to dry and seal before grouting...I use lithofin stainstop...there are other makes ...Try to use an impregnating sealer rather than a coating/topical sealer....much more natural finish....

I used LTP Mattstone (matt finish impregnating sealer) recently on a travertine job, looked nice (pics in gallery) and once dry theres no colour change.

Dave, what size grout lines would look good with these size tiles, they have got a slight shamfered edge, i was going to use 2mm. Tanks

2 or 3 mm will be fine...maybe an ivory/cream grout as well, looks nice with travertine.....
