Mark, when I came out of my time, as a tiler. I spent about 4yrs in hard flooring, sheet vinyl etc. I learned some very good ways of making templates, I think I posted these methods previously.
If you use felt paper to mimic the shape you need to cut, cutting paper 25mm short. Then take a piece of timber approx 50mm wide, using a pencil trace the outline of the shape you need onto the paper. Then transfare the 50mm from the paper back onto the tile, sheet or what ever you are trying to mark. You end up with a perfect replica of the contours. I can't explain it in words, and don't have the know how to do a diagram. Hope this makes sense
