Friends of mine have asked if I can tidy up their shower area.
Tiles are ok but the groutings awful and a regrouts needed.
The silicon along the shower tray is also in bad condition and on inspection it appears the tray has been fixed to some original wooden framework similar to battening which has no protection from water.
The actual wood has been painted white to match the tray and still appears to be in an ok condition ie no rotting etc.
I was thinking of using tile trim or similar to tidy up the tray area and remove all old sealants and replace.

Am I thinking along the right lines or is there something obvious that I am missing?

Also what do I need to use to fix the trim to the wood?

Any chance of putting some pics up? Hard to imagine what you mean. :dizzy2:

The shower tray has wooden battening trim effect running around the edge of it.
I know it sounds crazy but it has.
I was looking at a way of waterproofing it via some type of trim which could cover it.
By the sounds of it you guys are advising it needs to be totally removed.
Sorry but have no pics at the moment to send.

As Diamond said, you dont want wood or anything that will rot with moisture in a wet area. Ideally youd get rid of it! Could you take it out and replace it with a piece of tile backer board perhaps? Then you could tile it and make it water proof.

can you not repalce the wood for some shiny new p.v.c facia cut to size and no nails or siliconed on?
