Trim between mosaic and tile in shower

Hi everyone - first time posting on site and am desperate for advice. Have had a series of disasters in our new bathroom which after 3 months is HOPEFULLY nearing completion! Everything from leaking sink wastes, impossible toilet fixings, non-arrival of shower and so on but the BIGGIE was getting a "professional" tiler in to put up lovely 30x60 porcelain tiles - decided not to do ourselves as never done porcelain before and after reading posts on here decided too difficult. Had 18 sq m of tiles and all the correct cement and grout stuff to fix them, went out and came back that afternoon to find he'd ignored our stuff & put them up with BAL WHITE STAR - and half of them were only dotted and dabbed. Next day half of them had slipped (only 4 spacers per tile) and so, fearing disaster or death of one of our children, we took them all off. Anyway - that's the background to my desperate situation!
NOW we have complete aversion to the porcelain so are selling them and have bought some nice white ceramics to put up with a vertical strip of glass mosaic in the shower. We're using supajet square edge chrome trim on window and edges but would also like to use it vertically to mark transition between white & mosaic tile. Tile fits neatly in cup of trim leaving no gap for grout so how do we make sure no water can get through to back of tiles in the shower? PLEASE HELP! Thanks in advance!

instead of edging trim you could get a listello for where your 2 diff tiles meet,also have you considered tanking the bath wall before tiling? this will give you peace of mind

Thanks Kilty. Basically have bought everything from a commercial tile place and they had it all set out in a display shower so just presumed it would all be fine. Just starting laying everything out and my father-in-law asked what would stop the water seeping behind the tile where it's set against the trim. Would you draw a line of Silicon inside the trim before placing the tile or leave a gap for grouting? Am literally just about to tile that section today - the rest of the bathroom was done yesterday! Too late for tanking! Am tiling onto primed ply. Thanks again for any advice - really want to get it all done this weekend!

Tile trim is not made for mid wall transition it is an edge finish. You need a bull nose or flat faced dado trim to do the job you want so tiles butt up squarely.

Don't spoil the ship for a ha'peth of tar........................

hello,,ply in a shower sorry but its not the best idea for a substrate im afraid to tell you

as wetdecs has said a border/dado or listello but dont use a tile trim its not desgined for breaking up tile sections im afraid,,cant you take the trim back and buy something more suitable?

thanks wetdec - am only DIY tiler so perhaps a bit naive - don't know whether this stuff is edging or multi-purpose stuff! - is chrome and branded supajet - has a tiny 1-2mm profile that shows on tile front and, as it's a 10mm trim shows 10mm on top edge. Is the same stuff they have used in their display for horizontal band of mosaic border between top and bottom white tiling in shower cubicle. Also had a display with it between rows of slate effect large format tiles to give a very narrow chrome stripe effect. Looked really nice! Do I really need to go and find something else?! If I go and get the other trim how do I fix it? Same way pressing it into adhesive? Do you then grout space between trim and tile or use Silicon?

If you can't overboard the ply then tank it, as said that type of trim isn't suitable, go for something else or face trouble in the very near future 😳

EDIT: sounds like the trim is square edged trim so should be ok, the choice of a grout line between the trim an tile is yours, on some jobs I do some I don't, but you will still need to grout over the trim so will have some grout between it and tiles, seeing as it's in a shower I would leave a 2mm grout joint.
