Hey guys just finished 35m2 travertine floor, on top of mat UFH which with thermal boards underneath etc. Cant remember its been a while since i did anything with ufh how long before i can turn the mat on ? cheers in advance

really ? that long, i will have to inform, what could possibly happen if done before ? knowing how impatient people are at least i can explain why . thanks again

The adhesive needs time to dry completely, you need to increase the heat by 1 or 2 degrees per day up to maximum and then lower it back down

cheers Diamond  does that mean it can be switched on straight away then increased or is it say 2 weeks with it off then start the increments?

When you do switch it on, what the lads are saying, is turn it on until the light comes on or the thermostat reads the same temperature as the floor, then increase it by a degree per day, usually taking a week or so to get to the max, and then you can turn it off and it should be all done.

The adhesive might be dry in say 3 hrs at 20dgs or summit, but the adhesive needs to gain full tensile strength..this is what takes longer..and turning it on too quick can shock it and cause a failure.

It's called thermal shock, the adhesive goes crumbly. Although some adhesive manufacturers only say that it needs to be left a week before turning on and say you can turn it up more than 1 degree a day depending on the system. If you leave 2 weeks all the better I say but if they're in a rush check your manufacurers advice, it will probably be on the website.

Take the fuse out of the spur and take it away with you, stops the customer getting impatient and turning it on!

Works for me, customers dont like it but the guarantee on the job is in your name 🙂
