Under Floor Heating

Thinking of putting in UFH in my soon to be en suite and was wondering about the pros and cons.

Don't really know much about it apart from my Gran used to have it in her council flat when I was a kid and she complained about it consantly.

So here goes,
1, how long does it take to warm up ?
2, is it expensie to run. It will be going in a small wet room ?
3, Which is the best system to fit ?

1, how long does it take to warm up ?

It all depends on what substrate you install on. If its insulated boards or plywood, 30 mins. If its concrete 4 hours +

2, is it expensie to run. It will be going in a small wet room ?

Couple of pence an hour (depending on size of room)

3, Which is the best system to fit ?

If its a small room you should use a loose cable system as it is easier to get full coverage of the room. Warmup or Varme both have good systems


Never install a floor without underfloor heating. You can't put it down AFTER the tiles!

Do insulated tile backer boards replace ply for a substrate and do they make a lot of difference when used with UFH

EG quicker warm up and heat reention etc.

Insulation boards do work as structural boards, over T&G stil use 2 part flexi.....and they are worth every penny, they dramatically ruduce running costs, and give the system maximum efficiency..:yes:.........Gaz
