Underfloor heating

Hi guys, I am putting UFH on a bathroom floor, the floor is chipboard, I was going to overboard with 6mm hardibacker but have been told that cement sheet is not suitable for UHF and that ply would be better less heat loss ??? any toughts much appreciated Harry.

You would be better with a foam cored cement based product such as Uheat supply or Wedi, Mamox and the like.
Make sure the floor is solid though first with no deflection. These boards do not add strength!!

cement sheets such as hardibacker are not suitable with ufh as they offer no insulation values. the best solution would be to contact Uheat and get some of their Thermopanel. 10mm is the most common thickness used with ufh but they also do a 6mm option should you need it.

I've used the 10mm thermopanels and they are very good. Dead easy to install too, but as Grumpy says, you need to be sure that the floor is solid first with no deflection.

Whenever i put underfloor heating on chipboard i overlay with hardibacker to strengthen the floor. It might not have the insulating properties of other boards but the tiles staying down takes priority.
