I went to look at a job yesterday, it was on the limit of how far I'm willing to travel (scotch corner side of kirkby stephen side Dave and Faith!), anyway, all I could do was give the customer ( an elderly gentleman, project managing a really big barn conversion) a bad feeling about what he wanted me to price for.
Main bathroom, approx 40 m2; problem being walls have been drylined then skimmed, customer wants 12mm thick trav floor to ceiling:mad2:
Floor not really seen this before, a first floor bison beam screeded floor, with timber screeds @ 400mm centres and water borne ufh incorporated. Joiners intend to overlay this with 9mm plywood:yikes::yikes::yikes:, had to suggest an insulation board instead (open to advice as to which brand?)
Lastly all the flaming plastered walls have been emulsioned too!!
The customer was really quite good about it really, he was pragmatic enough to realise the problems are better to be raised prior to installation rather than post installation, so there is a plus side to the story. The downside is that I have to incorporate all this into my priceand travel 65 miles a day if i get the job, (he seemed eager to book me in!)
anyway, the point being, stick to your guns, tell the customer what is right, and not just what they want to hear as it'll save confusion/misunderstanding later
