Walls slightly out lol

Just stripped out my own bathroom (been putting it off), I knew the walls would be out but its a bit worse than I thought !

Pic 1 show the old tiles coming off and the 40mm of bonding (that was NOT stuck to wall, think the grout was holding it all up !

Pic 2 shows how badly the wall is out -

This is the wall that will have a new shower fitted so not really sure what to do, im using big 30cm x 45cm tiles so the walls really need to be good, would it be worth getting some of that cement board and screwing that to the wall and then give it a skim to level it off ??

Any ideas ?

If you use cement boards you dont need to skim them as that would lower the weight tolerances. Are you sure its not that wickes level thats out?

:lol::lol: beat me to it Dom!, I'd be inclined to dot and dab some plasterboard on that wall, and then tank it

lol, you never know, it doubles up as my hammer !

Would I need to bond the wall out to get the level up and then put the cement board up ? to bring it flush ?

Or maybe key the wall a bit better and just bond it again ??

The render is off the wall judging by your pictures, you need to remove it and then use plaster board. Bond the wall with mapei g before fixing boards.

If you dot and dab plasterboard, as Doug suggests use the correct adhesive eg. Gyproc or the like

Thats actually old bonding, the blue wall showing through is the original wall, will give boarding it out a try then, is mapei g a bonding mix ?

Prime before dot and dab? Ive never primed and never had a problem with that stuff, it sticks to everything

Mapei primer G is a primer (SBR)

Morning everyone, forgive my ignorance but how do I go about tanking it ?

Lets say I dot and bad some plaster board on the wall and square it all up.

Its only the bit over the bath that it is 'out' so would be about roughly 2ft x 5ft (one single piece of cut plaster board)

Should I just get one of the BAL kits and waterproof the plaster board wall and then the wall that runs parallel with the bath ?

Is this stuff easy to use ?

Yiou could either use the tanking kit mentioned or many others of the same. I prefer the membrane system myself though, I just cant seem to trust a paint on system. So I use Dural WP
