And it was basically a man extending his home... he laid 80m2 of i think travertine deffinately natural stone tiles and no ditra matting underneath... is it not essential when laying stone tiles? Thi is the impression I have from this site just wondering if it depends on substrate or any other reason. Cheers

I think it depends on the substrate. Fairly new concrete and plywood floors would probably need mat due to inevitable movement of some kind
