Wedi board behind wall hung pan

Tilers Forums Official Sponsors

Hello gents! Long time lurker, first time poster....

I’m just fitting out our en-suite bathroom using Wedi board on three walls and standard plasterboard on the fourth. Most of the Wedi will be plastered and painted with only the shower area being tiled (I’ve used Wedi all round because of the combined insulation and vapour barrier and because it’s so easy to install).

I’ve fitted a wall hung toilet frame and framed it all out nicely from the existing stone wall. The plan was to plaster and paint the wall around the toilet as I wanted a clean look but I’m wondering whether the Wedi will be strong enough to support the load imposed by the wall hung toilet. It’s not so much a point load but I wouldn’t say a pan spreads it out a great deal and I’m worried it may get compressed.

I realise it’s much better to tile behind a wall hung pan or at least use a solid backer like Hardie but has anyone tried the plastered Wedi approach? I could just slot a piece of 12.5mm water resistant plasterboard in that area instead....

Also, I assume tile adhesive and plaster bonds perfectly well to the Wedi 601 sealant that I’ve been using between all the joints and on the screws/washers?

Cheers!
