wet cutter problem

Hi, im doing a porcelain floor with 44 x 44tiles. the prob is that every time I cut using the wet cutter it breaks off near the end, almost all the time not leaving a straight edge. ive tried cutting slowly and putting pressure on both side without success. Ive also tried turning around half way through again this invariably causes it to break.

Any advice would be great, fyi its a new diamond disc.

What type of wet cutter are you using?

try scoring the tile with dry cutter before using wet cutter, that way if it breaks its more likely to break where its scored.

Hi, thanks for replies, its a plasplugs 180mm wheel. I always dry cut so that I can mark with pencil lead so that I can see line when wet.

There lies the problem cutting dry, mark the tile with a felt tip so it doesn't wash off so fast then offer the front edge up to the blade and slowly twist until the water line hits the rear mark then push thru without twisting. I think you are twisting the tile at the last 3rd and therefore causing the tile to split out

Hi chille, i firstly mark the tile using the dry cutter that way i get a guide line when using the wet cutter. and yes i use water in the wet cutter:smilewinkgrin:. Im also very careful to push the tile through uniformly cogniscant that twisting it in any direction is asking for mishaps.

Ok then the blade is new, the blade is wet and well cooled, and you aren't twisting at the last bit. Well I'm stumped mate, you must be doing something wrong, may I ask why you score and then cut I never do this unless its a small slither being cut off, is it so you can follow a pencil line mate?

Yes chille its just a habit ive got into, the lead from the pencil gets stuck in the groove (sounds a bit like a song hehe) that way my old eyes can still see it when cutting.

Just wondering could the guard be twisted? maybe putting that bit of presure on the tile. Just a thought

Why not use a normal tile cutter

try a sigma tile cutter....mine will cut the hardest porcelain tiles with ease, and you will only need to wet cut the 'L' shape tiles..
