Hi, i'm new to this forum but looks to be great advice. Just getting to the end of a long build & working on a wet room, budget not the same as I started with but want to do a good job. I've not used tile backer boards before so a few, perhaps obvious questions, sorry if you've answered these before😊.
Heading to using Jackoboard Plano on the stud walls has good recommendations from you all -most likely use large format tiles on top having read it has good load bearing strength. OK?
20mm board at 600 centres, 12.5 at 300 mm centres - will need extra studwork but needs to be properly supported. No PB, direct onto the wood studs. A few questions please as I only want to do this job once 😊
1) will a 2x2 timber be enough edge bearing for adjacent boards -so approx 1" bearing? I don't want to break out the board edges with the screws/ washers.
2) joining boards- will Jackobond board fix with their self adhesive tape over the top be best? Do i need to put Flexible tile adhesive over the top of the tape? (before tiling yes but when i fix the boards?). Any other recommendations/different products please?
3) sealing those boards with cut edges - Jackobond board fix and then self adhesive tape on top? Should i seal the board cut edge before using the JB Board Fix/tape? If so what would you recommend? Any other better suggestions/products please?
4) Do i need to tank the board surface with a roller on membrane? I have read this is not needed but experience can change manufacturers recommendations
Floor - screed with UFH
1) I'm thinking of using a decoupler membrane to minimise tile movement/cracking - good idea? Any recommended makes please? Self adhesive membrane or glue down?
2)Assume i need to prime the screed before decoupler membrane - any recommended makes please?
3) I will seal around/ over the drain edge - any recommended glues/sealer or the same as underneath the decoupler membrane?
4) I will use internal corners and overlap tape & along all wall /floor joints - do I tank on top as well as that's where it will leak if anywhere 😒😁. Any other belt and braces approach suggested?
CT2 grout for all tiles including floor for max flexibility?
Sorry, quite a few questions but as I said i only want to do this once,
thanks in anticipation😊,
Rich
