wet saw vs angle grinder

hi

i have a plasplugs master tiler (dont laugh) with a diamond blade..do i need a angle grinder or will this do exactly what a angle grinder will do..i am getting a rubi dw250n in early jan so i will have a decent cutter then but if a grinder is necessary until then, then i'll buy one

its the curves and plunging that i am concerned about?

any help appreciated

Hi

I wouldnt bother you can plunge with the plastiplugs cutter you have and should be able to cut curves on your tile cutter if they crop up.

Why buy such a short bed wet saw why not buy a metre+ bed that way you are covered for anything ?

do you mean the rubi dw250n when you say short bed wet saw?? i know it states 710mm but i thought you could achieve 910mm if you did a plunge cut in the middle and then cut outwards?

what saw would you recommend tiler 101, i am open to any advice :0)

ps i got the plaspugs because its 79 quid and it will do fine for ceramics and certain stone tiles. it was a start off tool.

the rubi rail saw will be ok ed mate..very rarely will you cut anything bigger than wot the saw can handle in domestic work..tiles are getting bigger but usually on commercial stuff like shopping mall's etc...domestics you will get around the 600mm format stuff....

would u also ditch the angle grinder or are they useful..i was going to get the makita one for 39 quid but if its not needed then i'll put the money towards the wifes boob job lol

If you dont cut anything over 600mm then one of the rubi toys will be fine but the random length stones and the new stone planks which are going to be arriving can run to a metre length. What I am getting at is if your going to get one then do exactly that get ONE you dont want to do it again.

Plastiplugs dont knock them they are a cool machine

so what would you recommend then?? what cutter would you buy to cope with the tile sizes you said. money isnt a problem. every year i have a tax bill, so i would rathter off set that on tools than hand the cah over to gordon

Hi

Would get an Italian one no question they are made for pros not launched because the brand sells. Belt driven with capable motors and plunging mechanisms.

I have looked at this in depth and compared all sorts coming back to the same machines for their quality aluminium bodies so no rust, portability and cutting ability. Here it is sorry only an image.

Myself and a couple of tilers have are bringing some in from Raimondi in Italy January/Feb time

I'v got a Pikus like the one above brilliant tool made of Aloy so wont rust and is the muts nuts on stone and porcelain. Its a real shame there arnt producers of good bridge saws in the uk we seem to buy anything thats any good from abroad. Anyway can recomend !!

As with all tools - buy the best that you can afford at the time. Have 3 wet saws now, 2 rubis and a norton clipper. The biggest rubi is a table saw with a 300mm blade and a 2000 watt motor. Will cut through anything, even flagstones and bricks.
Angle grinders are always handy - again if you can afford then spend the extra money and get a variable speed one - then you will be set up for polishing when you do natural stone jobs - eg polished edges - for example when fixing limestone or travertine into a window reveal. Just butt joint them , then round off and polish the rough edge. Looks far better than tile trim or leaving bare edge. You can charge more too. Look at spending £120 plus for a decent variable speed grinder.

Also to add - a variable speed grinder is also much better for sanding than a conventional sander - many differend grades of sanding pad available. Very usefull for taking emulsion paint off walls prior to tiling.

hi guys i bought a plasplugs one when my rubi went down and was amazed at the torque from it ,used it for a while then!
have you seen the dewalt d24000?? ive used one with a marcrist wheel and it was the mutts nutts way better than the rubi radial we had set up there, got a really long bed on it as well i deeply deeply aspire to one of these now after checkin the specs and seeing they beat the equivelant thousand pound priced rubi and was only 650 new
