Hi, I have a new goundfloor bathroom with blockwork walls. It will be a wetroom and I'm wondering what to do with the walls?

Is it OK to use wedi board directly onto blockwork, is it dot and dabbed?

Or would you recommend something else?

Could be done much cheaper with Durabase WP wetroom membrane and its not so much messing around

What base are you using ??

I'm going to use a preformed base with a channel drain.

So if I use durabond does that go onto plastered walls?

Information from one of our branches.

Yes you need to dot and dab but at the same time it does need to be manually fixed to the wall.

We also do a Hardi backer board at CTD this is ok for wet rooms but a lot cheaper but a heavier board and requires 12mm board on the walls.

We can provide you with a DVD on the Wedi for fixing.

I would always recommend Wedi due to been easy to use and its insulated at the same time and much lighter, but you pay for what you get.

Hope it is of some help.

Personally if you are going to skim it I would skim it all then use our waterproof membrane to seal the walls and base into place. If you use wedi board you will be wasting money doing the whole room as only the shower area +2-500m either side need waterproofing.

I dont think I would be called wrong if I was to say wedi or marmox for that matter isnt the best way to be looking at this it is the expensive alternative ??

Wedi is fine would be best to fix the wedi with rapid set flexible and the screw the board to the wall using the metal washers we sell.
You would then need to tape all the joints with the wedi wet area tape again using rapid set flexible.
Also once it come to fixing tiles to the wall bucket adhesive should not be used you must use rapid set flexible.

Cheers.

As a guide then Marie you could cost this ?

Wedi board and tapes and fixings to board a general wetroom shower area say 2.4m x 3m area enough for a 1200 square base ??

Oh including vat of course
